"The Ark" is one of the most characteristic churches which architect Piet Zanstra (one of the precursors of OeverZaaijer) realised in his productive career and dates back to 1962. For that reason the building was assigned as a young municipal monument. The building needs maintenance and renovation, but also improvement of the usefulness by the religious community (merger of two groups) towards the future. OeverZaaijer has suggested to equip the most unattractive side of the present building with a block of 12 maisonettes. The exterior of the church will be restored in its original state, while some minor interventions on the interior will make the monumental essence of the existing building suitable for versatile (church related) use in the future.
