From early colonial times, wide plank floors were the most efficient way to produce durable hardwood floors. As a saw was passed through the log, each consecutive plank was a little wider until the center was reached. The boards were then "edged" to remove the bark and to straighten the edges. The end result was several different widths of wood planks. This style is now called wide plank flooring and may be made from reclaimed flooring or, old reclaimed wood floors, planks and boards.
