Francisco Portugal e Gomes was born on the 10th of July, 1963 in Oporto, Portugal. In 1983 enters the Architecture Course of Belas Artes in Oporto. In 1989 gets the graduate degree in Architecture by the FAUP - Architecture Faculty of Oporto University. Between 1988 and 1997 cooperates with the architects Jorge Gigante, Francisco Melo, José Gigante and João Álvaro Rocha in their own's office. From 1992 to 1995 was pointed out as collaborator in two projects of architects José Gigante and João Álvaro Rocha's authorship: LNIV - National Laboratory of Veterinary Investigation in Varão, Vila do Conde and ICP - Institute of the Portuguese Comunications/ North Delegation. The first work received the Prize for the European Section of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) in 2001 and the second was awarded with the Prize Architecti/ Centro Cultural de Belém in 1995. From 1994 to 2000, Francisco Portugal e Gomes performed several projects in co-authorship with architect João Álvaro Rocha. From 2001 on works as architect in his own office located in Oporto, Portugal.
Between 1995, and 1997, teached as invited assistant in the FAUP - Architecture Faculty of Oporto University. Since 2005 works in the ESG/ Escola Superior Gallaecia, teaching Urban and Rural Rehabilitation to the 5th degree of the Architecture Course.
In 1991 receives the secound prize in the Restricted Contest, Municipal Public Library in Santo Tirso. In 2004 is also awarded with the 2nd Prize in the Restricted Contest concerning the Touristic Undertaking Quinta Vale Covo. In 2006, receives the 4 th Honourable Mention in the International Contest of the Bridge-Museum Academy, Venice, Italy. In co-authorship with architect João Álvaro Rocha wins several prizes: Honourable Mention in the Public Contest for the Cultural Building in the Enclosure of Palácio de Cristal, Oporto, 1994; first Prize in the Restricted Contest by Previous Qualification for the Universitary Student's Dwelling of the Universitary Pole in Alto da Ajuda, Lisbon, 1996; first Prize in the contest for the Conception/ Construction of the Urban Park in Moutidos, Maia, 1997. In the year 2000, he is also finalist of the Premis FAD/Barcelona - Architecture Section, with the Residential Complex of Outeiro I, from the P.E.R. Program of the Town Hall of Maia.
