Interstice

Derived from the Latin interstitium, from inter (“between”) + sistō (“to stand”), interstice represents “a state between spaces”. In the past few years living under the pandemic, everyone has been used to a walled habitation. Especially in dense city like Hong Kong, every one attempted to find new means of virtual spaces throughout the Covid time. We also reached out through gaps for new meanings of life or new ways of living, while bearing the already altered social forms that brought and enforced many of us some form of crevices within our memories.  1km Studio 1km Studio Designed by the Hong Kong based award-winning interdisciplinary design practice, O&O Studio, INTERSTICE is a spat... 10-POINT INTERVIEW 1. What is your name? Pamela 2. Where were you born? Tivoli in the province of Rome 3. Where do you live? Medolago in the province of Bergamo 4. Your favourite colour ? Blue in all its shades 5. The city where you would live best? I have moved many times and each time it was the right place for me at that time. I have realised over time that there is no place I would live better than in the present. It took me a while to accept my strongly nomadic identity, even though my actions spoke and speak for themselves. Let's say that in a way I have made peace with myself and to this day I can say that here in Medolago, on the island of Bergamo, I am comfortable. photo by Eleonora Cova Minotti photo by Eleonora Cova... Sound Affects

The Sonos exhibition was intended as an immersive series of environments employing strategies of metamorphoic architecture. An emotional connection between music, space and pattern is experienced by the audience as their bodies move throughout Sonos Studio. Projections and materials distort and misrepresent form, creating three somewhat indeterminate environments: serene, playful and explosive. The explosive atmosphere is constantly fragmenting through patterning and the inversion of form and shadow. Joshua White The playful space’s pink reflective insides are energized by projection creating vivacious and unpredictable surroundings, while the “serene” space remains comfortable, soft and stable. These material and sp... More

Voussoir Cloud

Voussoir Cloud, one of a series of invited installations designed by architects for the SCIArc Gallery in Los Angeles, pursues two main project goals: first of all, we aimed to design not an object, but rather an immersive experience that fills the gallery; and second, to explore the space-structuring potential of the material we were working with - a lightweight laminated wood veneer product not typically used in architecture. Caption Caption Voussoir Cloud explores the structural paradigm of pure compression coupled with an ultra-light material system. The design fills the gallery with a system of vaults to be experienced both from within and from above. The edges of the vaults are delimited by the entry soffit and the two long... More

Light Art Installation Dnipro Light Flowers

Dnipro Light Flowers is a light-art installation based on 13 inactive chimneys. The first highest chimney has already been completed. It is 120 meters high and covered with 700 point light sources, and a 50W laser is installed on the top.   The chimney is located on the territory of a former metallurgical plant. Now, as the plant is closed and its territory is being cleaned up, they decided to preserve the chimneys and turn them into art objects to honor the history of Dnipro city, its industrial past, which served to the country's intensive growth and development. With light technologies, we have transformed an inactive chimney into an art object, symbolizing a new vector of the city's development. From an industrial metropolis, Dni... More

Gravity

The idea for this restaurant was inspired by Gravity, the science-fiction thriller directed by Mexican filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón. The film is set in space and has a simple plot: a couple of astronauts are working on their ship when they’re hit by satellite debris. Prevented from returning to their own craft, they’re cut off in space in perilous conditions. This storyline, combined with innovative culinary art and design, forms the basis for this space’s unique visual concept.   The restaurant’s design reflects the film’s minimalist visual and aural landscape to create a sense of the same introspection felt by those in outer space. The challenge was to make diners feel comfortable in an otherwise co... More
