Ângela Roldão Architecture

The architecture office Ângela Roldão, located in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, is the physical representation of what the team seeks to create in their projects. We aimed to translate into our 120m² space the influence of Portuguese architecture in our work: pure forms, asymmetrical volumes; a delicate yet complex space. José Luiz Pederneiras José Luiz Pederneiras Right at the entrance, the visitor is faced with a 4.80 meters high door and a generous hall with double height, from where the white volume of the mezzanine can be seen. A reclaimed wood bench, a Chinese chair and a photo of José Luiz Pederneiras make up the space, along with a long Persian rug that directs the visitor to the first room of t... More

Ming Dynasty Suite

Richly appointed, our client’s condo on Nicollet Island presented the opportunity to create an atmosphere, spaces to display their art collection and a highly detailed primary suite.  JMAD JMAD JMAD JMAD Architect James McNeal started with the stair railing that connects the upper floor to the suite. The suite was tight on space, so we wanted to use details that would open up the space without eliminating any. Since the tub takes up so much space, we decided to make the tub an art and water feature - with a hand-carved dragon serving at the helm. All the detailing was custom designed by us, with granite and a pebbled tile flooring underneath the tub. We hired local artists to bring our designs to life. JMA... More

The choice of clay bricks is a tribute to the rich cultural heritage of the region, connecting the renovated space with the local history and architecture. This choice not only restores the visual identity of the historic center but also provides an environment that inspires creativity and well-being. Manuel Sá The duality of the space, serving as both an art studio and a residence, is enriched by the unique atmosphere created by the clay bricks. This integration between art and living is reinforced by the texture and color of the bricks, which become part of the aesthetic and functional expression of the environment, promoting a sensory and visually enriching experience for the users. Dining table 'Ode to Prouvé'

The design of this table originated from a commission for clients. After looking at numerous designer tables, they could not see the wood from the trees: too large, too subtle, too much wood, too much steel. An intensive process between clients and producing partners formed the basis of the design. The combination of wood and metal demands extra attention because of the curved shapes. The inspiration of Jean Prouvé and Scandinavian models from the sixties are clearly distinguishable in the design.  Caption Caption Caption Caption Caption Caption   Caption More

Diving Club

Tucked away amidst lush greenery, a diving club often stands as a beacon for those drawn to the depths, offering a space to learn, exchange tales, and plunge into the marine realm. Here, a structural gem marries organic contours with contemporary finesse. Its undulating white forms and the warmth of wooden details conjure a tranquil haven, accentuated by the serene aqua of the neighboring pool. CONES

“Cones” is a site-specific installation of hundreds of traffic cones wrapped around the front columns of the Aula Academica at Ghent University. The intervention alters the building’s assumed solemnity through an unconventional and thornily subversive aesthetic re-envisioning of its front. Caption Working from the appropriation of an everyday urban element, the piece takes over the building to create unexpected and intrusive, yet playful encounters for viewers. During the night the cones glow, adding a layer of transformation to the experience of the street space. Cliff5

Buildings of varying heights gradually rise from the river to the city, combining dense natural materials such as brick and stone with smooth glass and metal, emphasizing the continuity and coexistence of urban and natural environments. ATELIER

The building was created as an attempt to recycle materials that we had available from previous constructions and from family members who had stored them for decades - larch terrace boards, spruce facade boards, profiles for the construction of the foundations, windows and most of the insulation materials. We were also able to borrow shroud boards, light equipment, etc., so the building was largely self-built with the help of friends and family. Antonín Matějovský Antonín Matějovský We wanted a three-season building that would be suitable for work, relaxation, family celebrations or as a "guest room". A building that would relate to the surrounding landscape with views across the valley from the former... More

Room of Illusions

Brief Concept summary  “Your mind has an ability to bend the future. It is your mental projection overlaid on the existing reality and your past memories. It has the ability to twist and turn that reality, to write a new narrative every moment. What you fear, what you desire, what you fantasize, what you lust after; it all presents itself as moments triggered as markers over your timeline, the path you choose, becomes your future.” If one were to unfold that very idea and conjure it into a life size walkable-audio-visual-interactive experience, perhaps, “the room of illusions” is exactly what it might look like.
