051_SUR Roof extention rue de Lausanne, Geneva

This roof extension project located on the outskirts of the city of Geneva provides for the addition of three floors to the existing building dating from the 1960s. The result is the construction of fifty new apartments with views over the lake. Olivier di Giambattista Olivier di Giambattista The project is based on an analysis of the existing structure, which revealed a high load reserve, making it possible to envisage a heavy, reinforced concrete roof extension. This large beam construction allows for the consolidation of the six existing buildings in terms of seismic risks by compressing their structure (as in pre-stressed structures) and by horizontally connecting them. DU Office Flachgasse – Apartments

The former factory of metal objects Grünwald, built in 1907, was first transformed into a designer furniture store by Matthäus Jiszda in 1981. The building was once again restructured to house the offices of the Viennese branch of Dietrich | Untertrifaller. It has also been enhanced by two floors to offer a penthouse and two spacious apartments. The plan of the apartments adapts to these structural constraints and takes advantage of them: the supports on the central supporting wall and on the existing dividing walls allow clearing free levels as well as large windows on all the west facade of t... Roof extension Maxvorstadt_R11

R11 is a roof extension to a four storey building in the Munich inner city near the central station. The foundations of the existing 1980s building had limited carrying capacity and did not allow for a simple extension of this size. Instead, it was first necessary to demolish the reinforced concrete structure on the fourth floor before extending upwards with a more lightweight construction. The new structure of massive timber, clad in steel encloses two new floors and a mezzanine gallery. In total, three separate living units have been created. The interior space is designed as a flowing sculpture binding all functions together in a series of interlocking interior and exterior spaces. The upper floors are connected by an east-west galle... More

Kensington & Chelsea Roof Extension

A new floor and terrace within Kensington and Chelsea Satish Jassal Architects were approached to remodel an existing roof space in Kensington and Chelsea’s Colville conservation area. Steep roof slopes and a small existing terrace compromised the existing roof space. Our solution was to cut back some of the existing roofs to create a more useable roof terrace and to capitalise on the impressive views of London. We did this by introducing and anodised aluminium frontage with L shaped glazing to bring light down into the lower living areas. Two modern dormer windows were inserted to the rear to increase the internal headroom and create a bedroom and ensuite. A view study at street level was carried out demonstrating... More

The Curated Home

The Curated Home embraces the ordinary language of the Victorian vernacular and contemporary design to create an extra-ordinary home for our clients, their children and their home run business in Balham, South London. The architecture and interior design are concerned with the domestic to create opportunities for the display of carefully chosen, much loved possessions and items for sale. Although functional, our clients wanted to address the low levels of natural light and restricted space in their existing home to allow for family social living, larger gatherings and to accommodate an expanding home run business.Practical space and open plan design don’t always go hand in hand but by combining the existing vernacular with modern desig...
