Jet.com HQ

The staff of Internet start-up retailer Jet.com had been working for long months in a crowded incubator space and were ready to have a home of their own that reflected the work habits and developing culture of their new company. Bringing to life the driving passion and relentless innovation of the founders, this new headquarters occupies a full floor of a freshly-built building on the waterfront in Hoboken, New Jersey with panoramic views of Manhattan and the Hudson River.   IA’s design concept for the space grew out of the client’s business model of combining products together in distinctive packaging for shipping. We envisioned their iconic cardboard box unfolding to form the cross-shaped core of built areas, with the r... More

The Populist Bebek

Lagranja Design and its second ¨The Populist¨ in Istanbul Lagranja Design was commissioned to design the second ¨The Populist¨ restaurant, located in Bebek, a sophisticated neighborhood of Istanbul. In the meantime, the first ¨The Populist¨ became one of the most frequented leisure facilities of the Turkish Capital. Two years ago, Lagranja design studio in Barcelona undertook an ambitious project in Istanbul. The challenge consisted in the conversion of Turkey’s first beer company into a modern brewery with an industrial overall look, inspired by the graphic language of the Prohibition period. Cincinnati Shakespeare Company

The Otto M. Budig Theater, home to the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company (CSC), sits on a small but tall urban site along a historic arts corridor in Over-the-Rhine, one of Cincinnati’s oldest neighborhoods.CSC shows have always been intimate; now that intimacy has been further enhanced with the latest technology and a comfortable, acoustically rich house. Capacity increased from 150 to 250 seats that hug the flexible thrust stage, all within six rows of the action. This allows audiences and actors to engage and energize each other.Thirty-eight steps, one for each of William Shakespeare’s plays, ascend to a second-floor rehearsal and event space overlooking the bustling southwest corner of Washington Park. Pedestrians who look up may catch a s... More

Sonoma Land Trust Baylands Center

This modest building, designed to fit in among other adjacent barn structures, is intended to act as an information and entertainment center for a Land Trust that is restoring the adjacent Bay wetlands. Built in part from reclaimed materials salvaged from nearby collapsed barns, this is a simple form that functions primarily as a porch overlooking what will eventually be the new tidelands. The exterior wood latticework defines the gable form, yet allows transparency from the glazed interior space. A series of sliding glass doors enable the building to completely open to the outside, or when closed to function as a protected space in inclement weather. The Land Trust uses the structure for fund-raising events, educational tours, board meetin... More

Nando’s

Nando’s is a South African-inspired restaurant. The windows are adorned with a colorful, geometric pattern crafted from hundreds of yards of stretched cords. South Africa’s textile heritage is also vibrantly expressed across the interior.Solid wooden slats are featured throughout the dining room including the ceiling canopy, which echoes the two-tone, stained concrete floors. In addition to the wooden slats, the ordering counter is outfitted with perforated copper and hand-glazed green tiles. Two C-shaped floating red leather banquettes anchor the dining space beneath suspended, beaded pendants that reference traditional South African jewelry. Yarn-wrapped light fixtures are also installed above metal booths upholstered in bright yellow lea... More

L’Amico

The award-winning L’Amico restaurant at Eventi is inspired by a wood-fired meal and the simplicity of a stroll through the country side. Influenced by industrial details, Crème has created an escape from the bustle of cosmopolitan New York City. The 1,700 square feet space uses the warmth of reclaimed wood and copper cladding to give a sense of material tranquility. A 10 person bar allows single diners to enjoy a pleasant meal, while the 80+ seat dining room accommodates parties of all sizes. The wall pattern, derived from barn door geometry, is echoed in the graphic concrete flooring. Crème has developed a contemporary walnut and blackened steel chair inspired by the traditional Windsor form. Boasting two large copper clad wood-fire ovens,... More

Rockwood Youth Campus

Just outside the Portland city limits, Rockwood is among the most diverse and lowest income areas in the Portland metro area. Three non-profit organizations—Open School, Boys & Girls Club of Portland, and New Avenues for Youth—came together to create a two-building, 3.5-acre non-profit campus to support the neighborhood’s community of underserved youth. The campus delivers places for kids of all ages to learn, play, and socialize. The concurrent development of the two buildings enabled the organizations to create shared facilities that reduced initial capital investment. Open School East is an innovative college-prep school that prepares students who have struggled in traditional public school for success in college, career, and communi... More

Edelrauthütte / Ponte di Ghiaccio Mountain Lodge

The mountain lodge is situated at 2.545m above sea level on the crest between the two passes of Ponte di Ghiaccio and the Fundres and Lappago valleys, close to the border of Austria. The original mountain lodge was built in 1906 by the DÖAV’s (Deutsche Österreichische Alpenverein) Edelraute division of Vienna and after WWI changed hands to became property of the Italian State whereby the local division of the CAI (Alpine Club of Italy) became the property managers. In the 1950s the original mountain lodge was added on to, then renovated in 2012, and after a change in proprietorship and an evaluation of the building’s conditions, it was decided to demolish the existing structure and rebuild the Edelrauthütte Mountain Lodge. The new... Sopra

Amali, a Mediterranean style restaurant, opened in the fall of 2011 and marks the first of many collaborations between Mapos and James Mallios, restaurateur and co-owner of Amali. Two years later, they opened Sopra, a private dining room located in what used to be an apartment above Amali. Sopra means above in Italian, a fitting name not only because of the dining room’s location, but also because the experience is elevated; guests enjoy similar seasonal, farm-to-table fare, but in an exclusive setting with its own chef’s table kitchen. While Amali has a look and feel akin to a Mediterranean home’s courtyard, the experience upstairs is more intimate. Here Mapos created the patriarch’s private den. A masculine, darker palette and a light... More

Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Exp

The Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience, in Seattle’s Chinatown International District, provides space for community meetings and events, public space for the neighborhood, theater space for performances and presentations, exhibit spaces for community art and emerging Asian Pacific American artists, family-centered learning environments and leadership development for neighborhood youth. The design grew out of the original, 1910 multi-story building that served as a social center and living quarters for Chinese, Japanese and Filipino immigrants. Drawing inspiration from the building’s rich history, we saved as much of the original building as possible. In addition to building materials – such as timbers cut out between... More

Kimberly Clark Expansion

Founded in 1872, Kimberly Clark and its well-known paper products are an indispensable part of life for many Americans. In 2013, the company found a two-story space on the top floors of the Civic Opera Building, and called on our firm to implement the design. They returned to us in 2017 to renovate and expand. Elements of the company's history are woven into the design, connecting the current space to the headquarters in Northern Wisconsin and the original Chicago sales office in Willoughby Tower, a 1920s landmark. Eastlake incorporated enlarged vintage photos and line drawings into the design as murals and film, bringing images of the past into the present. In the cafe, motifs from Willough by Tower were transformed into wall covering, and... More

Manifest Destiny

Manifest Destiny! is a temporary rustic cabin occupying one of the last remaining unclaimed spaces of downtown San Francisco—above and between other properties. The tiny cabin is affixed to the side of the Hotel des Arts, floating above the restaurant Le Central like an anomalous outgrowth of the contemporary streetscape. Using a 19th-century architectural style and vintage building materials, the structure is both homage to the romantic spirit of the Western Myth and a commentary on the arrogance of Westward expansion. The interior space of the tiny house can be seen day and night through the curtained windows, a lonely beacon in the city’s dense landscape, and an incongruous, haunting vision from below.Material Used:1. Mila Modas / Mila Showroom

The fashion industry is in perpetual transformation and throughout time, it has always kept a close dialog with the tendencies and behaviors of the consumer. The concept for Mila store’s design is to bring a home to a commercial environment. We strived to work with natural elements that would bring comfort to the space, making the customer feel welcome through the use of affective memory thus making the experience of the purchase a pleasurable one. The idea is to bring stories, values and memories that would connect with anyone, with a careful and unique décor that would reveal itself in every minute detail. The façade is covered with Palimanan bricks in which a “L” shaped glass storefront comes through creating two different showcases, one...
