House Krokholmen

The site is a promontory on the relatively small island of Krokholmen in Stockholm's outer archipelago: a typical archipelago landscape with windswept dwarf pines and soft mountain outcrops produced by the inland ice. The plot benefits from open views, in the east all the way out to the lighthouse Almagrundet in the open sea, and it is at times exposed to strong winds. The family wanted a maintenance-free vacation home in one level with social space both inside and outside. We proposed a two-part plan. Through a central wall holding the fireplace, a narrow opening gives access to bedrooms, bath and storage, that are oriented to the forest in the west. The large family room with kitchen and entrance could thus face out towards the sea wit... More

BON TON Yachting Club

The Lighthouse does not only preserve existing values, it is also a symbol and a point of reference for the beautiful and important promenade in Marina di Ragusa. The requalification project aimed to increase the value of the building, trying to highlight its peculiarities while keeping clearness in its volumes and materials, and to create complementary shapes and signs, which suggest a strong nature in its entirety. Supported by these premises, the elements that "dressed up" the Lighthouse have been set up: the wooden terraces reach out to the sea, floating on the rocks and on the beach, slim and light structures compose the pergolas, white bands, more solid and strong, mark the existing loggia and outline the bar and the seats. These b... More

Stereokitchen

The project is an addition to an exciting office building of the 60s located on a prominent site on the northwestern side Beirut’s Center. The building follows a setback typology based on a regulation envelope that defined most of Beirut’s buildings during this period . Our intervention challenges this typology and deals with it by placing a thin metal roof as a closure. The architectural intervention comes with a dual language with a exciting language, it tries to create a relationship with it rather than being in conflict. On the other hand it is affirmative of a new program and a new strategy with different materials and identity instead of being deceptively a continuation of the existing. The additional floor is a totally glazed r... More

New homes in new suburbs are being built up and down the river further entrenching car-dependency. The lighthouse by room11 architects is a carefully considered consolidation project which demonstrates the potential for beautiful bespoke building which offer an alternative to the unchecked suburban hemorrhage. The client came to our office with a proposal to deliberately downsize. Selling a large family house to finance construction, they wanted a smaller simpler inner-city home. A doub... More

Museu do farol de santa Marta

Stuck between land and water, along a strip of terrain under permanent change as times went by, human intervention has grounded its most varied settlements. From the 17th Century onwards the amassing of different plans for this place, the material and technological resources employed on each epoch and the convenience of the granted heritage concur to a series of conversions and extensions. Nevertheless the locale features architectonic units of unequivocal reading, disposed according to organizational principles still quite clear. The adulteration and decay of some of its parts is the outcome of a process of natural selection the project seeks to revert to its benefit. Singling out the elements of greater permanence and poetic value, the pr... More

Phuket Gateway

The idea is to present the character of vernacular architecture in the south of Thailand through contemporary architecture. Phuket Gateway is to serve as a public space for welcoming the visitors to this province, just like a living room. This scenic town is a melting pot of various cultures and races represent by various architectural styles of local southern, Chinese, Muslim and Sino Portuguese. However, the project does not reveal any single culture significantly but interprets these local values in combination to the original materials providing contemporary pattern and function. The feature of Phuket Gateway is not designed as a normal threshold as usually found in other provinces of Thailand, on the other hand, it is generated as a... More

Kensington Lighthouse

The Kensington Lighthouse is situation of a 160m2 strip of land between a former factory and its kitchen, in a densely urbanised, mixed use inner city context. Timber framed glass and translucent polycarbonate were used to frame views and admit light while preserving privacy on the west, north and eastern walls. The house is made from two sun shells forms, connected around... More

Ani Villas

Ani Villas, two modern luxury villas of 3,000-4,000 square feet each, reside on a 1 ½ acre plot that slopes up to a sheer, stone promontory, overlooking Little Bay to the west on Anguilla’s north coast. They include soaring indoor-outdoor living spaces with breathtaking views of the sea and the sky. Each villa has four bedrooms with a detached office/guest area, and site amenities include a tennis court, a viewing pavilion and a cliff-top pool and deck area. By day, the... More

PACIFIC Bondi Beach

Koichi Takada’s signature Lighthouse designs have created spaces that are a ritual of daily experience and a celebration of life. “The more we looked at the space, the more we knew we had to put the focus on that amazing backdrop of Bondi Beach. Gazing out to the ocean from Pacific’s enormous terraces is so dramatic, it blows your mind. For us, context is very important. We wanted to draw that natural inspiration inside, juxtaposing the energy and texture of the beach environment – the breeze, the air, the smell of the sea salt – with the refinement and luxury embodied within these oceanfront homes. We sought to capture that natural luxury and represent it in physical form. Living here is a beautiful experience. Everything you touch... More

Nova Scotia Home

On a rocky, granite cliff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean near Ketch Harbour, Nova Scotia, this 5,000 sq ft house is a series of angled glass and raw concrete pavilions that capture the dramatic landscape in each direction. Crowned by gently curving zinc roofs, each pavilion frames views of a historic lighthouse, the sea lanes to Halifax and a World War II Allied bunker. Set along a linear entry hallway, the pavilions also define programmatic areas, with the den, living/dining rooms, the kitchen and master bedroom each ensconced in their own space. Two additional bedrooms on the second level cantilever off the main body of the house, further enhancing the experience of the site. The house is set on landscaped terraces that provide a... More
