Mekel Park - Campus Delft University of Technology

Right through the middle of the Technical University of Delft (TU Delft) used to run the bustling and broad Mekelweg (Mekel Way). This road was closed at the beginning of 2007 to make way for Mekel Park, 800 metres long and 80 metres wide. The TU Delft aims to transform its grounds into a University Campus, creating attractive surroundings for its international community of professors and students. This transformation is in keeping with the university’s goal of being recognized as a world-class institution for research and education. Formerly, the buildings of each different faculty and their respective parking lots sat like bulwarks along the road. Now, with the buildings located alongside the park, they illustrate their interdisciplin... More

Westergasfabriek terrain

In 1997 the American landscape architect Kathryn Gustafson together with Francine Houben of Mecanoo wins the competition for the Masterplan of the Westergasfabriek area in Amsterdam. The area lies between the urban Westerpark and the polder with its allotments. It is surrounded by water and rails making the site into a unity. The design accentuates the transitions to the city and to natural landscape. Two different routes will bring the visitor to various sites, landscapes and ambiences. Times change, use changes. Around the remains of the Westergasfabriek (gas plant) a new activity takes place: the business of leisure and amusement, of environment and ecology. The concept of the vast urban park is built around this activity. More

In the light of the extensive changes taking place in where and how work and research are carried out, together with the move from mass production to streamlined production, the spread of new technologies, flexible working and the increasing fluidity of society and markets, business-related architecture has assumed a significant and strategic role in the shaping of cities and the transformation of the landscape. Conference Centre, Corporate Campus Apeldoorn

The central building of the Corporate Campus Apeldoorn is the Conference Centre. The whole building is set up to stimulate interaction and communication. The landscape so typical for this area of the Netherlands is a main theme throughout the campus. In the conference building it literally continues in to the entrance hall, so nature and architecture melt together in the heart of the campus. Standing in the tall entrance hall you can see the restaurant and the conference rooms located on different floors. The landscape inside the building, the horizontal lines of the different floors and the substantial glass roof make the building impressive, but friendly and pleasant too. The restaurant is spread out over different levels gra... More

Pavilions, Corporate Campus Apeldoorn

The Corporate Campus Apeldoorn (the Netherlands) contains two small pavilions tucked away in the forest. Two stand alone meeting rooms have been built as modern interpretations of a log cabin. The pavilions are designed as connecting knots in the comprehensive structure of pedestrian routes through the campus. They are an excellent place for brainstorm sessions, meetings or working quietly in a green environment. These meeting rooms are part of the new working concept in which employers are motivated to move around the campus: a healthy dynamic workspace in nature. When the meeting rooms in the forests turn out to be a success, 8 more of them can be build on the campus. The architecture of the pavilion reacts on its environment. In con... More

Cumbres de Santa Fe

The outstanding element of this project is the landscape architecture, one of the most modern branches of the urban design professions and represents a synthesis of arts, science, and technical philosophies and practices that seek to care for the Earth's landscapes in a truly holistic, creative and sustainable manner. It involves the investigation and designed response to the landscape. The master plan for this residential project was done with respect to all the natural elements and taking advantage of the fantastic views of the lot that is naturally decorated by three magnificent ravines. Panorama - Perspectiva

Residential houses are located on a visually exposed southern slopes above the city center Luhacovice. It forms one of the first objects emerging residential enclave in this place. Location of home helps create a horizon of the surrounding landscape. For this reason, much attention was paid to a soft hilly relief was not disrupt the fitting of rough objects or significant relief changes. The concept is based on the idea of keeping maximal of the original slope. It was achieved by distribution of homes into two materials. First is heavy, concrete, emotionally "growing up" from the slope and forming a platform for a second, largely glassed object of the upper floors.
