The ICFF in New York, May 17th-20th2014, sees the renowned UK interior design house Dupenny launch their new range of fabrics and premier their latest design, ‘Potions’. Dupenny debuted two of their most popular designs on fabric at the ICFF in 2013. Following a fantastic reception they launch the rest of their fabric range in 2014 at the ICFF. Previously only available on Linen, they have expanded to also include Silk/Cotton and 100% Cotton Drill, as well as offering their designs on a selection of other bespoke fabrics. The range will now contain all 19 of their wallpaper patterns, including their most recent, ‘Potions’, which will debut as wallpaper at the ICFF this May. The Kujira (Japanese for ‘whale’) Coffee Table, also inspired by nature, was influenced by both mid-century Danish and Asian design. Studying plant and animal life, Dunn examined the skeletal structure of whales to inform his work, as well as river stones, sea glass, and driftwood. “As I sketched, I referred to the soft, smooth edges created by the tumble of waves and currents and infused this into my design,” says Dunn. The resulting table incorporates traditional solid hardwood construction with modern bent lamination techniques. Its unique features include hand-selected boards of either Walnut or White Oak – specially chosen for their interesting grain – as well as subtle brass details. As in the past, designer and studio owner Asher Dunn drew inspiration from nature when creating this piece. “I referenced the form language of tree limbs, arching branches, and hidden bird nests in my design,” explains Dunn. Using a combination of traditional and contemporary joinery techniques, Dunn and his team of craftspeople build the mid-century modern chairs from sustainably sourced American hardwood in either Walnut or White Oak.
