10 offices featuring eye-catching ceilings

Traditionally ceilings have three fundamental purposes: provide enclosure, conceal the building's service elements, such as pipes, wiring, and ductwork and enhance a room's lighting or acoustics.    However, ceilings in offices and commercial spaces go beyond their utilitarian needs; they can boost productivity and encourage spatial exploration.    The ceiling has evolved from a mere surface above one's head to an opportunity to construct a stunning background setting or even a centrepiece. The following list entails a selection of ten beautiful ceilings adding an architectural punch to office areas.   1. DR. KADE Pharmazeutische Fabrik GmbH Axel Kranz GRAEF were engaged by DR. Top 10 Trending Ceilings

Ceilings are arguably the most visible component of a space. From offices to commercial centers and airports, ceiling finishes can cover vast areas to conceal structural slabs or roofs, and enclose all the various mechanical, electrical, plumbing, lighting and security equipment necessary to building functions. Materials used to clad ceilings can be solid or semi open. They can lend to a space’s acoustical performance with perforated or sound absorbing materials such as mineral wool, wood or felt. These are ten of Archello’s most popular products specified by architects and designers in the past year.      University of Applied Sciences Bielefeld by Auer Weber - © Aldo Amoretti 1. CSEC Headquarters

WZMH Architects and HDR Architects collaborated with Spring Valley Corp. to fulfill the design requirements of this unique Government of Canada project. CSEC required a building that would support cutting-edge technology and human creativity, and promote a culture of teamwork and collaboration. To fulfil this objective, Spring Valley created a translucent panel called “iTrans”. Age- old logs were sourced from the depths of Georgian Bay and then sliced into 0.40mm thick veneer. They were laminated into panels which allow light to come through the wood, creating an amazingly warm glow. To create the structure, the curved frame was built with tubular structural steel that was shaped to extremely tight tolerances. The entire structur... More

Pamplona Bus Station

The New Bus Terminal of Pamplona was looking for an aluminium ceiling easy to mount, demount and replace in case of damage. The chosen 30BD was customized into a colour chosen by the architect and in a modulation on 100 mm to integrate the light carriers. The ceiling was thought as vertical application too and the light system was taken down from the ceiling leaving the 30BD as a decorative element. Amsterdam Central Station

"Pierre Cuypers designed Amsterdam Central railway station and the Rijksmuseum at the very edges of the city. At the time, the architect could never have known just how much the city would grow, or that these buildings would one day be viewed as obstacles to the surrounding area. The station, now a bustling hub of transport, no longer has a distinct front and back despite the rapid developments that have taken place behind the station, on the banks of the IJ. These developments have included the creation of 't Muziekgebouw aan het IJ, the EYE Film Museum, which seems to float like a bird on the water, and dozens of restaurants and cultural enterprises." This is according to Evelyne Merkx, of Merk X, famously known for converting Maastricht'... More

Art’otel Cologne

The concept behind Art’otel combines “exceptional architecture and art-inspired interiors” to offer their guest a unique hotel experience. Needless to say, that all interior materials are put under strict and demanding design requirements. From the functional side, the task for the suspended ceilings in the conference and common areas was to conceal the necessary installations and provide high quality room acoustics. From the aesthetic point of view, the ceiling design had to be discreet and in line with the overall design concept. The optimal solution to the functional and aesthetic demands was found in Contur Globe.
