Five sheets of birch veneer, one shaft and a handful of dowels. Designer Joan Pedersen’s organic shelving unit is simple and beautiful. Fly, which is the title of the shelving, is an abstract representation of the fine wings of the dragonfly folded onto an axis with mathematical precision. Stored in a shallow transport case it takes up minimum space and is kind to the environment.
Fly is part of Kolding School of Design’s exhibition The Tube which will be on display at the Milan Furniture Fair in April. The Tube consists of six white, specially designed containers each presenting a new product, an installation, or an experience with an artistic dimension, a commercial potential or, as Fly, a ground-breaking design.
Curator and exhibition architect Karen Kjaergaard has matched six talented designers, who have either recently graduated or are working on their Master’s degree project at Kolding School of Design, with the six companies Fritz Hansen, Kvadrat, LE KLINT, ege, LEGO and ECCO.
