In the world we live in, technological advances have a great influence on the way we make use of our living space.
These days most people no longer have a fixed workplace at the office and are able to adjust their private space called home to do the job when necessary. This makes flexibility a key element in how furniture is being designed while designers are now facing up to the challenge of creating ingenious solutions. With this line of thought, the idea arose to come up with a functional workspace that can easily adapt to the interior of the future.
During the design process of the Flow Wall desk, it was important to merge the construction with the design and become one item. The final shape is supposed to attract attention with a minimalistic appearance, whereby the constructive parts remain visible. When the table is not in use and is closed against the wall, a beautiful graphic pattern can be admired as a work of art.
The primary notion of usability is that an object is designed with a generalized user’s psychology in mind and this led to the idea of making a work of art useful in a simple but effective way. For this to happen, the vertical part emerges from the wall like a caterpillar with the help of specifically placed hinges, while these ensure that the form can follow its function by a single turn around its axis. Once pushed down, the tabletop is supported by wooden slats, creating an organic effect that also serves as a screen for more privacy.
The horizontal work surface is surprisingly usable due to its depth and width at the front which makes it perfect to position a laptop and write letters.
Oakwood is being used throughout the whole construction for a more natural look while brass hinges provide a repeating pattern as a finishing touch.
The Flow Wall desk has the ability to keep us surprised for many years to come as a folding magic trick, that keeps on working!
This makes it ingenious in its functionality and aesthetic appeal.
