PINE FOREST WALL is the third work in a series describing an urban forest, where a modern Finnish scientific and technical worldview and urbanized culture reflect upon their changing relationship with the forest. The themes and material choices convey the traditional way of life while the method of implementation takes advantage of today's technological development.
In the concert commemorating my 30 years as an artist held at the Design Museum Finland, I presented a new kind of diverse acoustic relief. Now the multi-layered panels dissipated the sound and created an unprecedented multi-sensory atmosphere. The light shining behind the wood reliefs creates the impression of quality and augments the feeling of space.
The acoustic characteristics of the artwork PINE FOREST WALL were studied after concerts. The test results show that when used properly the new work is both a sound-absorbing or sound-dissipating wall surface, it also indicates how the relief can be utilized in different types of spaces.
