The new fire station with its sculptured volume blends into the heterogeneous structure of the rural borough Frankfurt-Eschersheim. At the same time the building is defined by a clear urban and internal orientation: the high vehicle hall with its gates opens onto the training area. Adjacent to the hall the changing rooms on the ground floor and the community areas on the first floor are situated in the side wing. Adjacent to the hall the changing rooms on the ground floor offer direct access to the fire engines in case of emergency. The communal areas are located on the floor above. Towards the rear of the building the young firefighters have their own outdoor space on top of the storage area. The sculptural impression of the volume is emphasized by the arrangement of very small and very big openings in the facade. Following the image of glowing charcoal the envelope is rendered in a tone of ash grey, whilst a blaze of colours in the shades of orange, pink and red shines through the windows.
