Villa in Balatonfüred

FBI studio as Architects

The house is located in the northern part of Lake Balaton, Hungary. The site is on a slope with a view to the lake. The building was made for a private client as a family house with a small cellar for wine-making as there’s asmall vineyard on the site. The house is a three-storey building, with a lower level (partly underground), the first floor and an attic, where the family installed two bedrooms later-on. The thatched roof seems to float above the glass facade of the first floor and partly hold by steel pillars. The brick walls with reinforced concrete pillars are covered with local stone. Other surfaces-as the roof from beneath-are covered with wood. The lower level hides utility rooms, a recreation area, storage rooms and the engineering. Sliding wooden shade-panels help to prevent direct sunlight. The house and the garden consider the slopes and contour lines of the site. Engineering is based on a heat pump and solar panels behind the house. The garden was designed by a landscape architect to create a diverse surrounding made of local species of plants and trees.
