VERT MOULIN ROUGE

VERT MOULIN ROUGE

Luis De Garrido Architects as Architects

It aims to extend the MOULIN ROUGE in the adjacent plot, and provide it with new activities. Specifically you want to build a school dance ( 5 meeting workouts ) , a cafe , a restaurant , an amphitheater , a museum, two gift shops , and various offices for administration. Of course , the extension should be integrated with the existing building , both at the front , and at the structural level .

In the proposed solution , and after careful consideration, it was decided to maintain the existing mill on the main facade and is an architectural landmark that must be maintained. The mill is part undoubtedly the urban fabric of Paris .

Therefore, Luis de Garrido has designed an ingenious and simple set of volumes on the facade. Four planes overlap each other, leaving a rhomboid space, right in the middle of the facade, to place the mill. The most important level is perfectly south facing in order to ensure perfect bioclimatic performance of the building ( you can cool naturally in summer , and warm in winter naturally , providing the highest level of natural lighting ) .

The façade planes have been solved by an ingenious solution ventilated facade with triple glass skin , and bioclimatic silkscreen.

But undoubtedly the most important feature of the building are the two vertical gardens , and above all , fabulous upright plant network.

Plant red symbolizes that the building should always keep the mill , and this , in turn , hopelessly trapped in any building that is constructed. As a huge insect caught in a spider web . In turn, the spider represents the subtlety and strength of the movement of the dancers MOULIN ROUGE .

This innovative and original network aims to protect the building from direct solar radiation, and also provide it with a formal appeal unprecedented . The network consists of a set of hollow cylinders of recycled polypropylene . The cylinders have a diameter of 20 cm . and a variable length . Each cylinder is composed of a set of lattice cells, to make room for the roots of plants, and is lined by a compact jute fabric . Inside each cylinder the continuous watering of plants and ensures the corresponding drain . All cylinders are held by means of a network of tensioned cables, which pass through it. Thus, in each cylinder set different growing plants , and the assembly is shown as a "live" plant network.
