Golden hall for the Olympic Champion

A4 studio as Architects

The Vasas Sportclub is one of the oldest and most successful club in Hungary. It was founded in 1911, in Budapest and it already has 45 Olympic Gold Medalist and 40 World Champions. From the 30 sports they have, one is fencing, which has 9 Olympic Champions. The latest victory was in 2012, London. Áron Szilágyi won the Gold medal in sabre. Áron has been training here - in this almost 40 years old hall-, since he was 9. The hall is located in the green area of Budapest. The designs of the renovation were made by our office, the A4 Studio. The design focuses on the presence of the natural light in the hall, and on the visual connection between the interior and the surrounding outdoor sportpark. The zigzag shaped, north-oriented, front-high, glazed surfaces let the light in, without reflection. In this way the training or the competition is ensured not te be disturbed. In it’s external appearance we used only metal, in golden colour, referring to the former and present successes of the club. As the sun goes around the golden colour of the „hall-sculpture” is always changing hour by hour, day by day, season to season. In the facade the past and present champions are illustrated. The front-high figure of Áron Szilágyi illustrates the exact moment, when he won the Olympics. The designs of the building won the Trimo Future Realistic Dream Award in 2012.
