The residential building, designed by Rotterdam based pasel.künzel architects is located on the southern corner of the block, marking the ‘corner stone’ of an urban volume.
The relatively small programme of the building assimilates different open air spaces and thereby offers highly specific answer to private housing in dense urban environments. Through an elevated patio the living area as well as the bedroom are directly linked to an outdoor space. For privacy reasons the patio, a well as the rest of the southern façade can be utterly closed by means of huge sliding shutters, providing protection from outside views and sunlight. Partially the façade made from larch wood laths stretches high above the flat roof. Hence the roof garden becomes a private idyll, remote from public life. The different heights of the façade give the relatively small building an outstanding sculptural appearance.
