Lahz Nimmo Architects + Wilson Architects in Association
Lahz Nimmo Architects and Wilson Architects, were appointed successful winners of a shortlisted design competition for the new Lowy Cancer Research Centre, a joint venture development between the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and the Children’s Cancer Institute Australia (CCIA) at the UNSW Kensington Campus in Sydney, bringing together childhood and adult cancer research within the one site.
The competition-winning scheme proposed a number of thematic responses to the competition brief for a $50 million, 11,350m2 project. The final brief for the building effectively evolved out of our competition scheme and developed into an $80 million, 17,000m2 facility, accommodating 400 researchers over six levels of laboratories, shared between two differing user groups, fully testing the success of the generic laboratory model.
