Zandkampen is what we in the Netherlands call a ‘broad school’, which means a school building which may harbour more than one primary school, a nursery school, day care, other forms of child care, and also several other community services.
Zandkampen is located in a green environment. For this reason the school was conceived of as a tree house. The exterior of the building is made of Rockpanel Woods to give the school the look and feel of a tree house. The concept of the tree house is further enhanced by the use of pillars, which look like trees, and the use of special windows. The interior reflects the idea as well and contains, wherever possible, Cradle to Cradle products.
