Tokyo Showroom

A showroom designed with an “opening doors” theme to exhibit a variety of doors and fixtures developed by Abe Kogyo.Exhibit doors are set in walls that have been built in a radial pattern, with whole sections of wall opening out from each other one after the other as if the walls themselves were doors. This not only secures the wall space needed to display the doors, but also lends a sense of movement and excursion to the exhibition area, which can tend to be monotonous. Doors are accessible from both sides. This allows one to easily consider various aspects that are essential to choosing a door, including how it feels when opened or closed, what it looks like from the inside and outside, and what it is like actually passing through the doorway. It is also the perfect setup for testing the effectiveness of soundproof doors in the exhibit. Exhibit door types, product names and product numbers are displayed on the outer edge of each section of wall. These edges are also display an icon that allows the visitor to intuitively determine the applicable catalogue and page numbers to reference as they browse the exhibit, making for a low-stress experience.Also, because a door’s trajectory is represented by an arc on a blueprint, the arc is used as a theme throughout the exhibit,appearing on the floors, the ceiling and even the reception desk.Photos by Takumi Ota
