Mayca and Gonzalo Bethencourt, owners of the Finca, expressed their desire to establish a new visual link between the existing buildings and their environment from the basis of respect for the culture of the territory. With this challenge, started this renewal by the Lanzarote architect with studio in Berlin, Néstor Pérez Batista.
Located in La Geria, the wine area well known for the uniqueness of its volcanic landscape, this farm combines residential program with agricultural activity.
The surrounding landscape is the central argument of this project, therefore one of the main challenges was to make the building establishes a very close and vital relationship with it, so that one was the extension of the other and vice versa.
The first space, to the west, homes the living and dining room of 22 square meters. The second, central – west, is home to the bedroom and bathroom of approximately 25 square meters. Both with a height of 3.50 meters.
The former stables and warehouses up near the main building facade giving north of the farm and set in an east-west. The requirements of customers including two suites, divided into two main areas: sleeping area + bath and sitting area + kitchen, in approximately 40 m2 each.
Following this logic, the program is distributed in existing rooms spread along the east-west longitudinal axis of the building, whose proportions and heights are adapted to its specific use.
Each space is devised individually, strategically connected to its neighbors and the countryside spaces, creating a whole. This strategy seeks to appropriate outdoor spaces and thus it becomes a stay over the residential unit.
The composition of the fenestration attempt to create a certain ambiguity about what is inside and outside and while the rooms are differentiated across the landscape that is built with their views.
The third room, central – east, houses the bedroom and bathroom 20 square meters. The fourth, to the east, homes the living room of about 25 square meters, with a height of 3.80 meters.
The detailed attention to aspects such as lighting, spatial geometry, ambient comfort and privacy of the rooms allows the unit to be experienced as a whole, providing a variety of conditions and spatial differentiated characteristics.
The apertures emphasize the feeling of openness and transparency, avoiding in turn break the spatial continuity and established good relations with the landscape.
Spaces choose to root in the landscape, to complete it, to maximize the connections between the inside and the outside, blurring a boundary that allows a strong connection with the place.
Stone, wood, clay, cement, lime and glass: the natural materials of the existing building and the traditional architecture of the island has been chosen for this intervention.
