This 59-story multi-family residential and hotel tower responds to its site with a diagonal façade that addresses city hall immediately to the southeast. Vertical openings in the tower’s form relieve the structural burdens of high wind forces while opening up the interiors to natural light and views.
Cixi City’s hot climate led designers to orient and shade the building to minimize heat gain. Vertical fins clad in copper protect the building skin from the sun and contrast with the clear glass curtain wall that encloses the tower apertures.
Dramatic, multi-story elements span horizontally across the tower, creating select “sky-loft” units with glazed roofs. At the top of the tower, the Crown Plaza Hotel embraces views of downtown Cixi and the nearby mountains.
