EGM architecten has been selected to design the new sports pavilion at Fletiomare Oost. The municipality of Utrecht has commissioned this sporting facility to accommodate three sports clubs: Fiducia (net ball), Eendracht (hand ball) and PVCV (soccer). The pavilion facilitates two canteens, locker room facilities and communal areas.
Collaboration
The three sports clubs will collaborate on the development of the new building that replaces all existing facilities. Main principle of the collaborating parties is to significantly reduce the construction and operating cost by redeveloping this one facility to be suitable for all parties.
Own identity
The design foresees in the need of each club to keep its own identity, but to facilitate the joint use of locker rooms and communal areas. This will result in a building that emphasizes togetherness but keeps in mind the identity of each sports club.
Representation and sustainability
The architecture of the pavilion reflects the character of each sports club: sporty, open, transparent, accessible, recognizable and representative. And last but not least, the building will be easy to maintain and is highly sustainable with a strong focus on exploitation and flexibility.
Omnidirectional building
Because the building has been comprehensively designed and materialized, it consists merely out of front facades and has in addition an optimal relationship with the surrounding fields.
The rotation of the superstructure creates a certain tension, dramatizes the overhang and makes the building less predictable. This creates different corners of the building, both inside and outside.
The project is expected to be completed in 2014. The redevelopment of the sports park will be finished in 2015.
