Shipperstgracht 16

The Schippersgracht house, a Dutch national heritage site (Rijksmonument) from 1675 is a former skipper house dating back to the Dutch VOC era. During the major renovation, around 2009, the entire façade was renewed, and a new interior design was created. In the design, the light and spatial characteristics fulfil an important role. Functions such as showers, toilets, storage spaces and stairways are all located within a large cupboard that extends along one entire side of the house and over multiple floors. This allows the actual floors to remain mostly free and usable, and ensures a line of sight across the entire house. Use of subtle colours throughout the house ensure that characteristic interior elements are emphasized.
