The Seibl Inn

The Seibl Inn

Juri Troy Architects as Architects

The old house that stood there before was about 300 years old. In 1968 they added a new part to the building that contained a small restaurant. As the tourism in these days increased the restaurant with its beautiful garden and the view over the lake Constance to the Swiss mountains was soon very well known. (Also because of the famous "Kässpätzle" - a local speciality. In December 2008 the old part burned down completely as well as the roof of the newer part.

The 5 owners had to decide what should happen with the ruin. So we started with some studies on the plot. We discussed to build apartments, etc. But for me from the beginning the most important part was to keep marvellous situation open for the public. So at the end I could convince them to start the project toward a new remodelled restaurant with 4 small apartments in the first floor. After this whole process took nearly two and a half years the construction time then was just about 9 months. In the beginning of 2012 it was opened exactly 44 years after the first opening day with a small ceremony.

The new part of the building is done completely in prefabricated timber elements. All the façade and the interior is in Austrian larch. With an additional insulation of the old building we managed to put down the energy consume on 30 % of before. Also we designed a roof that holds both parts stronger together and includes a 20 m² solar collector for warm water production. With an additional room for guests the host is now able to serve twice as many people as before. The new lifted sun terrace offers also a connected outdoor space with a perfect view even from the back of the garden.
