LAVA is creating the new interior spaces for an old cabaret theatre dating from the roaring '20s.
The abandoned 1920s cabaret theatre has been recently uncovered in the heart of Berlin.
The music hall theatre has been buried in 30 tonnes of rubble since 1934 when it closed, perhaps as part of a crackdown on the cabaret scene by the Nazi regime.
Discovered by accident by Dirk Moritz [Moritz Gruppe http://www.moritzgruppe.de ] the three level musical hall and restaurant was a cabaret venue and featured a grand ballroom, a theatre, beautiful wall paintings and vaulted stuccoed ceilings.
Project developers, the Moritz Gruppe, will renovate the three story building, called the SECRET GARDEN, which will comprise spaces for performances and exhibitions, studios, meetings and conferences, and luxury apartments for short term and executive rental.
They asked multinational architects LAVA (Laboratory for Visionary Architecture) to work with them on the design of the spaces.
