Each year, Frédéric Flamand director of Ballet National de Marseille gives the opportunity to young dancers as choreographers . This scenography was for a selection of the 2008 program, in which DGT collaborated with choreographer Yasuyuki Endo to create a set design for the performance of contemporary dance ‘Té To Té’, meaning ‘hand to hand’ in Japanese. ‘Té To Té’ became the key concept of this scenography, or how the hand leads us to communicate, to touch, to build, to destroy, to caress.
The design consists of 50 metal strips suspended from above the stage, which give a fluid definition to the space. The scenography is a ‘frozen rain forest’. The rain, normally ungraspable to the hand, takes on entirely different properties when frozen. It becomes rain that we can touch. Rain with which we can act upon or react to. A forest of frozen rain that we can grasp hold of, hand to hand.
