San Juan Grill is a restaurant designed by KOB & CO de Jakob Gomez which provides high quality and regional dishes from Monterrey, Mexico. The architectural concept is a reflection of its origins and processes.
It began in 1952 and went on to become the most successful butchery shop in Monterrey. The lighting design and selection worked was put together with Morton Lightshop.
The aim was to establish an atmosphere that would represent the beginning of the butchery and experience and reflect it through simple objects as the lighting atmosphere. 2700Kº lamps with high performance were selected with the intention to achieve a cozy warmth that simultaneously highlight the color materials exposed. We worked mainly with brand LED lamps from Construlita and Tecno Lite, which offer a high-definition detail, therefore, it is possible to appreciate the woodgrain, brightness and central mosaic textures, such as iron, wood, stone and leather materials
We also decided to play with different opening angles for the lamps, this according to the height and the desired brightness in each space. This was a very interesting
One of the priorities was to offer the guest the maximum comfort, so the restaurant lighting plays a leading role, however very discreet. We believed that more is less, and we though about the perfect combination of light and structure. Thanks to this, it was a posible to accomplish surfaces where the light had to be shown, but you did not see the source.
The space is divided into six zones: a terrace and entrance, bar, private area, grill area, bathrooms and kitchen / administration.
Each area is bounded by hanging elements and contrasting materials. They accentuate and define the space into three visual levels. The new elements, as glass and metal, they were inserted to create a contrast between the old and modern.
