Ronald McDonald House in Munich

Ronald McDonald House in Munich

HEWI as Manufacturers

The Ronald McDonald children's foundation has set itself the task of creating a temporary home for critically ill children and their parents during their time spent in the clinic. Ronald McDonald buildings have been built in a total of 18 hospitals throughout Germany. One of these is located in the cardiac centre in Munich and provides parents and their sick children with the opportunity of staying overnight in the guesthouse. The building, completely redesigned by the architects Nickl Bausback, had additional storeys added and was extended. In this way, 16 new individual apartments were created, so that 26 apartments are now available in total.

Rust-brown elements were used in the outdoor area, in order to create a link with the surroundings – the adjacent, listed Zenetti building with its fair-faced clinker façade, and the old trees on the clinic site itself. The joint use room is designed as a central place within the building and it extends over both storeys. The upper storeys is where the private rooms for the families are, which serve as a place to retreat. Inside the building a warm white creates a pleasant atmosphere.

The architects deliberately refrained from using conspicuous colours, in order to produce a lounge-like, peaceful mood. The reserved design is continued in the one-room apartments through to the bathrooms. The System 100 sanitary accessories fit in well in the light-coloured ambience. The building fixtures and fittings have been chosen so that they are both easy-care and high-quality. In the bathrooms high-gloss chrome elements have therefore been used, System 100 fittings made of high-quality, satin finish stainless steel have been used on the doors and windows.

The building also has an apartment designed for accessibility, which is located on the ground floor. System 100 support rails and hinged support rails have been used in the accessible bathroom. The shower has also been equipped with a hinged seat. Here too the products used emphasise the reserved design of the building.

SYSTEM 100

System 100 is based on an expressive concept: Architecture and design are consistently related to each other, down to the smallest detail. The puristic individual components are part of a whole. The Bauhaus style design is determined by geometric elements. System 100 enables clear and consistently stringent design. The system includes sanitary accessories as well as accessibility products for the comfortable and convenient bathroom, fittings, handrails and also signage.

In the bathroom System 100 offers different surfaces and therefore enables many design options: For example, the holder elements and brackets are available with a high gloss, chrome-plated finish, made of white-coated metal or with champagne-coloured PVD coating of the C1 surface.
