The Route is made up of the Rivers of Light which cross and connect the different areas in question. Each area encompasses both the surrounding streets – like the tributaries of the river – as well as buildings and monuments.
The areas made of streets and squares are lit by lamps which must maintain a consistent colour temperature to avoid visual disorder. Buildings and monuments are illuminated according to their particular characteristics, while maintaining certain features in terms of the techniques used throughout the performance, such as enhancing by increasing the intensity, control levels, light integration, and visual comfort… Rivers are alive and changing…For this reason, the green light that will serve as a reference and guide over the course of the Rivers of Light route will come from different elements and lights.
A light colour code is used which creates unity with the buildings and allows communication of the different messages in a clear and visual way:
- "River Green" (blue green) colour emitted by different lighting elements used to show the route through the city.
- Liturgical colour to illuminate the inside of the church towers and the hollows of certain windows.
- Purple for Advent and Lent.
- White for Semana Santa (Holy Week), Christmas, and the feast days of Our Lord, the Virgin Mary, the Angels and the Non-martyr Saints.
- Red , for the Resurrection and Pentecost, and the celebration of the Apostolic Saints and Martyrs.
- Green for Ordinary Time.
- The colour of Valladolid (official burgundy colour), so that cultural buildings can be easily recognised.
The “Rivers of Light” route offers a new way of enjoying the evening and night-time in Valladolid, savouring cultural, dining and leisure experiences, or just taking a pleasant stroll.
