This intervention on the City Walls begun in 1993 as an agreement between the Tuscany Region and the Municipality of Lucca.
It was born under the urgency to destroy the spread of the fungal pathogen Ceratocystis fimbriata fs. plane, which threatened both trees and monumental complex. The projects involved all the ring wall which has been the subject of various redevelopment interventions on vegetation, road system and furnishings. The spread of cancer stain led many old plane trees to death and to their substitution with other species not susceptible to the pathogen.
All those projects have been processed in different ways because of the status of the site but everyone reguarded renovation of roadways, access tamps to the walls, recovery of the walls, relocation of furniture and decorations damaged over the time.
