The building project at Simmeringer Hauptstraße 192a comprises a total of 112 residential units. The premises also include a common room for 90 persons, a rehearsal room, an indoor children’s playroom with access to the outside, and several storage rooms for bikes and other items. The residence consists of one 4-story-block erected over an open pathway and five point- blocks, accessible via 5 staircases. In order to positively influence the housing quality and the tenants’ identification with the address, the residence was equipped with roof gardens adapted for plant cultivation, tenant-occupied gardens for ground-level units as well as common landscaped areas with playgrounds for toddlers, children and youths.
The modern, open-space character of this project was created in connection with the design concept of “integrative dwelling” (created by architects Hallamasch), and intends to be a stimulus for greater intensity of interaction and communication among the tenants, thus trying to facilitate integrative dwelling in the green outskirts of Vienna.
The architectural idea of a block-shaped building erected over an open pathway, is based upon a concept of urban development which combines the longitudinal orientation of the building with the lateral position of the neighboring green areas, thus creating an open view towards the pedestrian zone.
