The refurbishment of a building in a farmyard, once used as stables and barn, becomes an opportunity for reinventing, in a contemporary way, a building strongly linked to local agricultural tradition. The project aims to transform the existing building into a family home, preserving all the parts not excessively damaged. The stonework facade on the north side has been reinforced and the brick walls have been restored. The south front is characterized by the original brick pillar and by wooden lattices that recall, in terms of contemporary reading, the traditional racks used to dry hay and the corn. The alignment of the south front with the adjacent buildings of the court changes crossing the entrance defined by the wooden lattices. Here in a double-height void space there is a small private garden, a filter between the courtyard and the proper entrance of the house. A concrete staircase covered by a wooden runner leads from the ground to the first floor framing through a large opening the trees of the forest outside. On the first floor there is a wide space containing kitchen, living and dining room, divided by a light stair. The space remains free without visual interruptions except for the white line of the staircase leading to the upper floor where there are the bedrooms. The building achieved the C.E.N.E.D. Class A energy certification.
