In the centre of the city of Utrecht a railway line halves the terrain of the Railway museum into a northern monument and southern industrial part. To the design of ARC2 Architect studio emerges a new building with a rustic appearance. The steel structure in the façade of the museum hall is filled with masonry and forms a reference to the railway workshop of the 19th century. The hall does not look like a traditional museum and on the footpath you can find old locomotives, railway carriages, machines and tools hung up. The windowless expanses of the three large studios run through the roof of the hall. In these blinded boxes attraction and education go hand in hand with the help of collections of railroad antiques from a specific period of time.
