Peguis First Nation is located north of Winnipeg, and is the largest First Nation community in Manitoba. Peguis First Nation approached Manasc Isaac to build them a school to accommodate 1200 students.
The project was spread across several phases, and the facility includes kindergarten, elementary, junior high and high school wings. Other program elements include a gymnasium, home economics, industrial arts and support areas.
The design was created through significant local and community engagement. Through a local Masonry Trades Training Programme, we were able to collaborate with local workers on this bright, strong and robust design that features colourful masonry and steel sun shading elements.
Ultimately, this bright and cheerful school addresses the culture and future of the community and offers an inspiring and culturally significant space in which students and staff can visit, work and learn.
