Pedestrian Bridge

Pedestrian Bridge

Vincenzo Casali as Manufacturers

The pedestrian bridge over the Navigliaccio, a watercourse tributary of the River Ticino, allows you to walk along the banks of the Ticino river, from the city of Pavia to the woods out of town.

Two pairs of pillars of reinforced concrete constitute the support for the beams of the bridge. The pair of glued laminated timber beams follows the Gerber beam pattern: the external parts are supported by the pillars and the shoulders, while the central part of each beam is supported on the external ones..

The walking surface is wood. The parapet is in tubular galvanized iron profiles. Both the structure and the beams are colored in black, a color that is absorbed by the natural context that hosts the pedestrian bridge. The height of the bridge has been determined from studies of hydraulic compatibility, earthmoving work and subsequent environmental mitigation measures have been done to design the slopes and connect the different levels of the two banks of the Navigliaccio.
