Dauby as Manufacturers

"This is the" thought interior architect Paul Rijs when he was this charming villa a hundred meters from the Knokse bought Zegemeer. It was to be his ultimate dream project, beautifully situated and to the smallest Details finished. The result is a timeless seaside house where the peace blows you meet as a cool breeze.

Once we enter the front yard by the aging wooden gate, it falls on passion and care with which the house is finished. Nowhere is there anything about overlooked, nowhere is there to detect any unevenness. The result of a lifelong career as an interior designer. All the experience gained during Paul many projects that he supervised and vormgaf, come into this house together.

"Sketches, plans, change their minds and change again: it was a puzzle in which each piece had to be in place, to the house proper rest REFLECT and security, "explains Paul. This gave rise to a place where he with his wife Hilde wants to enjoy life, where his children and grandchildren feel at home and where he can be devel- customers in a relaxed way catch to discuss their project. "I only work with people who share my passion, "stresses Paul. As Annie and Holger from Dauby, the company that was responsible for all the door and window fittings. "They are committed to their product and show a great love of beautiful things. Even the safety cylinder to the front door is in line with the rest of the herd. Being such details that provide added value. "

That Kempenaar Paul Rijs for Knokke chose to realize his dream home, it is less surprising than it seems. "During my childhood, I have almost all holidays spent in Zeebrugge, "he says. "I have seen the love of the sea. I particularly like the rest hanging here, from the rustling of the willows, the sound of the surf and the salty smell of the sea. The house is a stone's throw from the sea and the cultural Scharpoord. The city center and its Salt unique houses and narrow hiking trails are within walking distance.

The house dates back to the sixties and was, according to the sales description a "freshening up" increases. That turned out to be one? Ink understatement. Both inside outside the villa underwent a thorough makeover. The tipgevels were provided trusses, windows were disguised to obtain more symmetry, was the balcony padoek new railings and facades were completely repainted in a white-gray hue, typical of the colors of the designer. Striking: some stroke windows were shuttered, others not. "Surprising is not it," Paul says. "I love of playfulness in a building. Not everything has to be immediately apparent. Only when you for a while watching the façade, you will notice that everything is in balance, it beats all. "

Inside the house was divided from scratch. "We have long doubted whether we living room on the street side or on the garden side would contribute. Finally we opted for a family room with an open kitchen on the garden side and a more of? cial evening room facing the street. These two spaces from one another are separated by an L-shaped sas in the middle of the house, where you have access the cloakroom, basement and utility room. This central block is bounded by two stylish window wrought iron doors that provide a seal without the openness disturbing. Not unimportant to the sea, which always blows a gentle breeze. "

To get unity in the interior, the number of materials was carefully limited. Roasted blue stone and natural oak treated wood are the most important. Along with the white bronze of the door and window fittings from the Pure collection of Dauby.

"This white bronze emphasizes the pure, pure character of the interior," said the interior designer. "It is treated carefully, so it can never fade." The kitchen was made from the same wood as the oak floor in the living room, fully Natural finish. Even the width of the boards is identical. For the kitchen countertop worked with a gray and black granite which was burned and brushed to a give rougher look. Unlike the rest of the house was the batter - again from Pure Collection of Dauby - here a rust color that contrasts nicely against the white oak. The black stained dining table is one with the leather chairs renowned Dutch designer Gerard van den Berg.

As night falls, Paul and Hilde retreat into the cozy living room to the streetside, which radiates especially a sense of security. "This is what They deman- ger 'the best room' called, "Paul explains. "We can enjoy peace a good book, music or a relaxing TV evening. When guests arrive, we can get the panel door in the corner unfold and shift, so the TV hidden away is behind a tight wall. "Everything in the room is focused on evening socializing. In the wall there is a gas fire processed. It is a corner model, so that Paul it also has a nice view from his office. On the floor is a thick, silver-colored carpet that contrasts nicely against the bank in a dark chocolate hue. Chocolate color which runs like a red thread through the house and comes back in different materials with different structures.

'Simplicity adorns' is one of the mottos of Paul Rijs. This is reflected above where the same materials were used. Also in the bathroom again devoted attention to the batter. For example, the sliding door that gives access to the bathroom equipped with a custom built shell of white bronze. The mirror cabinets above the sink are finished with a remote? ned handle end, as the mounting shell from Pure Collection of Dauby.

When we look from the bedroom to the garden, it is noticeable how hard This approximates? philosophy? e of the interior. "We have worked together previously with landscape architect Luc Mertens, "says Paul. "I definitely wanted an entrance lane with willows. As in we have opted for a limited selection materials that exude honesty and purity: graying padoekhout, stone and baked clay bricks, boxwood and Osmantus supplemented with seagrasses and a Portuguese cork oak. In terms of design the garden looks sleek and symmetrically, but by the choice of plants, trees and grasses he looks too luxuriant and fresh, and he radiates, like the house, one and all sea feeling it.
