Rehabilitation and Upgrading of Restaurant 1. History and Context Located in the heart of the city - Leiria, Portugal, the existing building with more than 150 years is part of the historic center. It integrates the front of the pedestrian path Polis program, side by side with a protected area of the National Ecological Reserve that surrounds the border of the river Lis. The refurbishment included in recovery and restoration of the "shell" of the main building, saving the most of the facades and architectural and decorative structural elements.
2. Concept Restoration as respect for history, reinterpreting its content, was the theme we were interested in exploring. Literally a “raw space” with barren walls and ceilings, the architects team worked closely with the client to bring innovative design, ample working space and waiting areas as well as warmth and character to the 140 seat restaurant. The result is a modern space that uses traditional warm materials such as wood, glass and stone, inspirational and innovative way. Each space was carefully designed between the modern and the traditional, which reinforces the thematic relationship between old and new. If in the one hand are chosen materials, from the other are chosen ingredients; one follows a concept, the other a plan; one follows a trend, the other the new. One should be admired the other tasted, but both serve a single purpose: Feed the soul of people! And it was exactly that the course of our work - feed your dreams and desires, creating for that environments that reflect their habits and desires.
Reabilitação e Requalificação de Restaurante 1. História e Contexto Localizado no coração da cidade – Leiria, Portugal, o edifício existente, com mais de 150 anos faz parte do centro histórico. Ele integra a frente do percurso pedonal do programa Polis, lado a lado com uma área protegida da Reserva Ecológica Nacional que envolve as margens do rio Lis. A remodelação consta na recuperação e restauro da “casca” do edifício principal, conservando ao máximo as fachadas e elementos estruturais arquitectónicos e decorativos. 2. Conceito A Restauração como o respeito pela história, reinterpretando o seu conteúdo, foi o tema que nos interessou explorar. Literalmente um "espaço cru" com paredes e tectos nus, a equipa de arquitectas trabalhou em parceria com o cliente para conseguirem um design inovador, amplo espaço de trabalho e áreas de espera, bem como o calor e o carácter necessários para um restaurante de 140 lugares. O resultado é um espaço modernista que utiliza materiais quentes e tradicionais como madeira, vidro e pedra, de forma inspirada e inovadora. Cada espaço foi cuidadosamente projectado entre o moderno e o tradicional, o que reforça a relação temática entre o velho e o novo. Se de um lado se escolhem materiais, do outro escolhem-se ingredientes; um segue um conceito, o outro um plano; um segue uma tendência, o outro a novidade. Um deve ser admirado o outro degustado, mas os dois servem a um único propósito: Alimentar a alma das pessoas! E foi exactamente este o percurso do nosso trabalho - alimentar os seus sonhos e desejos, criando para isso ambientes que traduzam os seus hábitos e vontades.
