CASA COR 2016: DINING ROOM

Gisele Taranto Arquitetura as Architects

This year Gisele Taranto Arquitetura was challenged to design a dining room for Casa Cor Rio 2016, the most important architectural and interior design event in Brazil. The 26th edition will take place in a house surrounded by Burle Marx gardens in Gávea that belonged to the businessman Celso da Rocha Miranda. But how to design this space without falling into the trap of the famous Dèja-vu feeling? How to make the public curious about it? Or even better, how to take the public out of their comfort zone in order to make them to investigate and think about this space? What are the uses of this space? Is it possible to create a not static project? Can we say that besides having our meals we also use this space for studing, working and meeting? Leonard da Vinci portrayed the Holy Supper in a dining table. So why don’t we relate this space also with religion? How many movies had sex scenes in it? There are still many funerals placed in this space in the inner cities of some countries. How many children play with their toys on the table or even create huts below it? So we can see that there are many activities related to this space beyound its primary function. Considering this personal concern versus the different uses of the dining room we created a dynamic project were each week we will deal with one of these uses. To create this designs we have partnered with Ovoo Store. Furniture signed by contemporany brazilian designers is a caracteristic of the brand and was the starting point for all of our options. As a background of this layouts we kept the memory of the site: wood floor in Peroba-do-campo, trim doors in marble, black iron windows frames and adornments of shells above the doors. To highlight all these architectural details we used a neutral base of Matte Stucco from Casablanca in bone color on all the walls and ceiling. Assuming that we will have six weeks, we choose six themes: Meeting, Sex, Study, Work, Religion and Meal. For each theme we designed a specific layout, always with distinct materials for the tabletops (cement, lacquer, marble, Ebony and Freijó-mel wood and glass) and the seats (leather, fabric, wood, metal and lacquer). We invited art curator and collector, artists and designers to carry out an intervention in our space every week: - Meeting: Mara Fainziliber;stu - Sex: Vanda Klabin; - Study: Alessandro Sartore; - Work: Ana Laet; - Religion: Antonio Neves da Rocha; - Meal: Duilio Sartori. So every Monday we will have a new dining room, where we will exchange EVERYTHING, except for the lighting and the biggest art work on the walls. And for each transformation, we are recording these changes and interviewing our special guests. All this material can be found in our Facebook page - Gisele Taranto Arquitetura. For the installations of the event we surrounded ourselves only with great professionals. The lighting was signed by LD Studio. The idea was to create a flexible lighting system, in order to provide the right atmosphere for each theme. For this concept we used rails and projectors from Lumini. We also have the presence of an Italian vintage chandelier from Teo store. The building work was carried out by Tecto Engenharia. The art work from Carlito Carvalhosa and Bruno Dunley were selected by Nara Roesler Gallery. EnDev used the Smart Speaker unit, responsible for the sound. Guilha fashioned the curtains with imported linens and M3 performed the tracks with the design of the architect. Rugs are from Phenícia Tapetes. Finally, the aromatization was carried out by Aromatizar and glasses by TTR.
