Nudgee Junior College

Fulton Trotter Architects as Architects

The Nudgee Junior College master plan is an addition to the existing focal point of the college campus the original, modernist brick building, constructed in 1939 based on a design by Charlie Fulton, which houses the school’s administration, art and music facilities and forms the main entrance to the school. The redevelopment in its first stage included a new L-shaped classroom building, as well as the refurbishment of seven classrooms, the hall and fit out of a series of music practice rooms in the basement of the Original Building. The second stage completed the precinct linked the new and refurbished areas, replacing demountables. The new classroom building pays respect to the original forms and materials of the existing building while providing a measured contrast of a modern, open and light-hearted expression. The Mt Sion Library demonstrates a bright and friendly response to the site surroundings by utilising the vibrant colours throughout the building. The multi-level library now provides a vital connection, enhancing the relationship and varied play spaces at each edge with the steep site on the Brisbane River. It acts as a shining star with it’s beautiful glass facade and consistent use of brick work.
