Nail IT

estudio ALA as Architects

Nail it is a nail-art studio located in Jalisco, Mexico.

Making reference to the colorful palette of nail polishing products, the project was designed with a strong palette to create an identity that could be replicated in any commercial space without loosing the feeling of the studio.

The light and color installation provide illumination into the customer area, provoking diverse textures and effects when the hanging sticks virtually overlap and give the feeling that the whole ceiling changes as you walk thru the studio. The customer area works as an open floor plan and is segmented vertically in 2: the client area and the ceiling installation with 7000 colored sticks. These hanging elements are attached individually and work as a whole. The colors chosen for the ceiling intervention have a relation between each other in the color diagram, these helps the whole concept to transmit the whole idea of continuity. These specific 4 colors start with pink were the warm colors start to turn into the cold color area.

On the lower client area everything was maintained white to transmit the tidy filling of the studio where the hygiene is flawless, this area serves as a white canvas for the wide variety of designs in nail art possible. Specially designed furniture was taught to maintain the feeling of continuity into the space.

On the back of the studio, enclosed by clear glass, one can find a children´s area were kids can enjoy themselves while their mothers are being attended by the staff.

The area is defined by a pink plastic floor in the same color as the ceiling, giving continuity to the whole concept. It is in this area were the ceiling intervention reveals its specific yet universal condition.

In our studio we always aspire when designing that any expression of design is specific to its context but a universal way of transmitting information. At the same time we are always thinking of the big idea and how every element in the design has something to support the whole thing.

We wanted to create the strongest desire for color on clients, just the one that suits their personality best or the one that relates to their mood that day. This colors were just the first path to guide people to the whole palette of options.
