The Medimall is a unique building with several medical-related facilities adjacent to the new Maasstad hospital with a public pedestrian route in between, called the Care Boulevard. The design breaks with traditional designs for health care. It looks more like a shopping promenade where health is the central theme. All facilities under one roof, the 'one-stop shopping principle.
On the corner is the care hotel. The plinth of the building consists of shops, interspersed with hospital-related functions, such as a rehabilitation center, which is combined with a commercial gym. Above the double-high plinth, the other functional mass. The total volume is divided into five disks that are placed perpendicular to the hospital. These areas give room to a daycare, home care, dental clinic, prenatal care, maternity care and blood bank. There are also restaurant facilities and a supermarket.
The plan gives new insight in property of Dutch healthcare.
