Tp3 Architekten as Architects

The two floors, which were formerly used as self-contained entities, were to be combined into a clear-cut unit, both spatially and functionally, via the existing staircase. The room structure of the existing building being divided into small sections was opposed to the requirements of handicapped accessible facilities as well as the creation of additional surgery rooms and the re-organisation of internal workflow. The surgery entrance on the ground floor has been completely restructured by creating a generous foyer including an emergency/casualty department and handicapped accessible sanitary facilities. The entrance area, which is connected with the casualty department, has been designed such that it is directly accessible for the ambulance in case of emergency. The upper floor has been redesigned according to aspects of optimum internal workflow. The reception area and the waiting facilities have been combined, and the surgery and treatment rooms are fully out of the client’s field of view. To create additional treatment rooms on the existing area of the upper floor, curved shear wall have been erected relative to each other in such a way, that their intersection creates additional treatment space secluded from view.
