When the client purchased this home, the upper floor had been previously renovated to eliminate all but one bedroom on the second level. One large master suite with a dressing room, den and sitting area was not practical, nor functional, for this family of five. Within Design changed the existing master bedroom, to a master plan now including two bedrooms, a master suite and a new bathroom.
The design goal of this project was to introduce contemporary flair, in addition to blending more traditional elements already found on the main floor of the home. Several interesting design aspects of this project, include: the homeowner had already pre-purchased tile at a clearance outlet, so Within Design had to create and interesting shower detail using the materials on hand; the bathroom vanity was placed on legs to give the look of furniture, rather than standard cabinetry; taking advantage of the exceptionally large windows, Within Design used dark and dramatic color on the bedroom walls; and lastly, a double-sided fireplace was salvaged and re-installed in a new location on a forty-five degree angle to enjoy from the sitting and sleeping areas of the bedroom.
