The hall as a gathering place and a token of environmental care

Urban design plan approvedunanimously by the Municipal Council of Marly-le-Roi. It includes the construction of a market hall with a half-buried and an outdoor car park, plus a housingproject.

The hall The shape of the hall is simple, strictly square. Slightmovements of the roof allow the introduction of zenithal light facingnorth. The hall isfreedfrom all columns, whichgives the building a completeflexibility of design and evolution. The underside of the hall iscoveredwithwoodcladdingwhichensurespleasantacoustics.

Vegetationcoverspromote a good visual perception of the roof. It alsoimproves thermal comfort and facilitatesrainwater management. The facades are equippedwithwoodensunshadesplacedhorizontally or vertically, according to their orientation.

The forecourt Exteriorstalls are disposedaround the square hall. Stairssituated in the continuity of the circulation around the stallsprovideaccess to the parking below. A side road controlled by retractable bollards enableseasydelivery to the shops. The fullyplantedsideslope to the eastconstitutes a land reserve for the future housingunits. Situatedbetween the forecourt and the park, and facing the entrance of the hall, a smallwooden-clad building gathersunderits roof the usher’s office, additionalrooms and discreetly accessible restrooms.

To the westalong the Fontenelle Street, urbandevelopmentfollows the plan of the future multi-modal transport hub. The patio illuminating the parking on the lowerlevelisgenerouslyplantedwithtalltrees, embeddedflowerbeds, assemblages of mineralmatter, thuscompleting the planning of the court.

The space in the vicinity of the parking patio constitutes a transitionalspacebetween the new market hall and the housingproject, and offersseating areas and shade. The tops of the treesemergingfrom the patio are similar to those in the planted parking lot, creating a visuallinkbetween the forecourt and the landscaped parking.

The covered parking The existing parking ismaintained and brought up to standards. Thanks to its patio, its extension benefitsfrompleasant and luminous parking space. An elevatorgivesaccess to the court from the exterior as well as the interior parking. Its glass treatmentmakesit a discreet and contemporaryelement of the court.
