Mariëndaal Centre of Excellence in Arnhem

GROUP A as Architects

Recently the office-building 'Mariëndaal Center-of-Excellence' (MCE) was completed on Businesspark Arnhems Buiten in Arnhem, formerly known as the KEMA-site.

More than two years ago joint venture BAM-Giesbers Contractors started construction of the recently completed shell-and-core building, which has already been handed over to future tenant network operator TenneT for fitting-out works.

The headquarters office comprises a total of 34,000 sqm gross floor area, with the main entrance lobby on the split-level ground floor, a restaurant with kitchen and terraces, meeting center and supporting facilities including a library. The four level building provides 1,200 individual work spaces. Two parking-floors, beneath the four floors, give space to 350 cars.

The rich historic surrounding landscape has been at the base of the design concept because it lends itself so well for creating various work opportunities in a lush and green environment. The 'open' landscape at this side of the park is drawn into the spacious building's courtyard, featuring a balanced palette of natural stone pavements, and vegetation that suits the surrounding landscape. The facade embraces the courtyard comprising stucco wall finishes and concealed aluminium window-frames. The 'outside' facade consists of greenish/grey Danish brick surfaces with exposed aluminium window-frames, each horizontally modulated with aluminium strips.

Studio Groen+Schild is responsible for the fitting-out for the headquarters of TenneT.
