The overhaul of this iconic building on the western end of the Sunset Strip and the gateway to Beverly Hills involves a re-cladding and reorganizing of space. The 14-story, 300,000-square foot Luckman Plaza was one of two on the property designed by architect and businessman Charles Luckman and completed in 1964. A new curtain wall will update the building, streamlining it and making it more accessible to predestrian and vehicular traffic. The smaller, three-story building behind the tower will get new windows and be linked to the larger building with a frameless glass pavilion through which visitors and tenants will pass. The update also will enclose an open-air plaza at street level under the larger building. This under-utilized space will be enclosed in frameless glass to create 14,000 sf of retail and a restaurant space with outdoor dining.
