In the Who's Next 2.0 Competition one was challenged to design a modular sustainable house.
As briefed, we took in consideration building a house near a lake and we developed a structural concept with wooden stilts similar to those of palafitas. LsD is organized in 3 versatile and flexible spaces to accommodate the private and social areas, which are connected by a double height area: a library capable to store the owner's book and art collection.
This weekend house expresses the need to connect to the outdoors and gives special attention to the hobby area: the quality times. The house revolves around the central area that connects both ground floor, to the lake, woods, etc, and the upper-floor, the family space. This shelved central space is the structure of the house. That is to say, it actually provides the baring load capacities of the wood stilts and beams and also function as a much useful to display the tons of books and art objects.
The house features a variety of green techniques such as green roof, direct sun light to all spaces, natural ventilation, water catchment system and minimum site impact; the wood is to be harvested from controlled plantation and the façade shows expanded cork panels for thermal and sound insulation.
